Michel Reis - Piano
Acclaimed as an "exceptional pianist" by Downbeat Magazine, Michel Reis has rapidly emerged as a globally renowned artist in recent years. Now he presents his new album "For a Better Tomorrow" at the opderschmelz cultural centre.
Michel Reis has performed at some of the world's most famous venues and festivals, including the Blue Note Jazz Club, Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center and the Olympia in Paris. In 2005, he achieved the finals of the inaugural Moscow Competition for Jazz Musicians, followed by a second prize win at the Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition a year later.
Highly regarded Scottish author and jazz connoisseur Brian Morton holds Michel Reis in high esteem. Morton particularly highlights the enchanting opening of "Bound Together" and the mesmerizing title track "For a Better Tomorrow," as they embody the natural essence of Reis' playing. Even during his most virtuosic moments, Reis never conveys strain or forcefulness, as his intention is not to impress but to enhance the musical experience. This sentiment is particularly evident in more delicate compositions such as "Coal Harbour," "Aquene," and "Paper Feathers."
An album to fall in love with, peaceful and hopeful, capturing the quiet world view of Michel Reis. The audience can look forward to an intimate and special piano recital.
