“Meskerem Mees enchants from the moment she opens her mouth,” says the infamous online magazine Consequence of Sound in praise of the super-young indie-folk singer. A voice as pure as spring water, an acoustic guitar in hand and catchy refrains that will touch everyone’s hearts.
After her first single "Joe", released in 2020, the critics were unanimous. Mees became a favourite in the press and won the Montreux Jazz Talent Award in September 2021 and the Grand Jury Prize at the Music Moves Europe Awards in early 2022. Meskerem is only 23 years young and there is no question that she has a stellar career ahead of her. With her debut album "Julius", the talented artist landed on the quarterly list of the German Record Critics.
At the end of 2022, she released her second record called "Caesar". Meskerem Mees sings eight songs that sound as nostalgic as the 60s, poetic, sensitive, almost thin-skinned, about better times, love, the sun and the moon. Hymn-like and in all modesty with a neat touch of spirituality. But with humour, subtly, with a wink, never loudly.
After her performance at the Fête de la Musique, the Belgian singer-songwriter will enchant us this time at the Opderschmelz Cultural Centre. With emotional, folk and soul-influenced ballads full of poetry and wisdom.
