Pol (LUX), Yuri (NL) and Angelo (NL) happened to be just small-town boys with an evergrowing interest for music.
Turning into young men struggling with life’s many challenges,
they have always managed to canalize emotional highs and lows into sonic stories.
Fumage is a compilation of these stories that have been brought to tape following a
pleasantly organic creative exchange, where all three are leaders and followers.
The seemingly bottomless melancholy experienced when life ruthlessly pulls you down
opposed to the lavish bliss at euphoria’s peak are two feelings of similar magnitude, yet
different in color and intention. The music of Fumage can push the listener in both
directions, hence the large spectrum of emotions and shadings. With great certainty, it will
not leave any music enthusiast indifferent.
Three musicians, who had been bathed in a variety of music since their youngest age,
serendipitously met at a cross-European jazz project and decided to walk off the beaten
path to create a new sonic landscape outrunning the requisition of any categories.
Analog synths and drum machines are spliced to driving guitar riffs and raw drums, thus
accompanying a voice of genuine honesty to provide a selection of unique songs.
Wandering in the footsteps of Dirty Projectors, James Blake and Grizzly Bear amongst
others, Fumage’s compositions thrive from a large musical background and materialize not
only a certain accessibility, but also a hint of lush, well-hidden complexity.
Turning their backs on the exigencies of the jazz world, Fumage have obliterated the will to
conform with any existing musical scene and henceforth solely follow their intuition.
