The quintet's innovative take on traditional Celtic themes literally gives them wings. The musicians pump up the traditional melodies with energy, freshness and good humour, so that they reach a state of weightlessness and simply take off.
The band met while studying folk and world music at the University of Limerick. This unique degree programme acts like a magnet for young musicians from all over the world, which explains why three Celtic nations are represented in this group: Ireland, Scotland and Canada. The sound of this band is correspondingly diverse.
True to their name, The Outside Track are refreshingly different. They dare to look from the outside in. It is a look at traditional playing styles from the perspective of world music. They also play their own compositions. All five are gifted virtuosos and richly orchestrated with fiddle (Mairi Rankin), harp (Ailie Robertson), accordion (Fiona Black), flutes (Teresa Horgan) and guitar (Michael Ferrie).
