Depuis plus de vingt ans, la Ville de Dudelange est étroitement liée à la scène de jazz locale, nationale et internationale. A Dudelange, l’histoire du jazz s’écrit et se réécrit en termes de concerts live, elle se conjugue au présent tout en gardant vivante la mémoire musicale. Vingt ans après, la machine du jazz, un générateur d’énergie inépuisable, tourne à plein. Au tournant du nouveau millénaire, la réputation de Dudelange en tant que « capitale du jazz au Luxembourg » était déjà fermement établie. Forte de ses antécédents, La Ville de Dudelange s’est résolue à créer un festival qui sied à son image de pionnier du jazz au Grand-Duché. La Ville se propose de défendre avec ardeur sa stratégie culturelle en organisant une plate-forme commune aux artistes, au public, aux professionnels et intermittents du spectacle ainsi qu’aux associations spécialisées et aux sociétés intéressées. Concentrant ses efforts sur le jazz sous toutes ses formes, le festival présente un éventail à la fois diversifié et représentatif des courants contemporains, en misant sur la qualité exceptionnelle des performances, spectacles et créations. Les grands noms et les légendes vivantes du jazz, les artistes représentatifs des nouvelles tendances, les découvertes et les lauréats, les musiciens fidèles « à la maison », vont se partager la scène. Une place de choix revient au jazz luxembourgeois, en pleine effervescence aujourd’hui non seulement au Grand-Duché mais également sur le plan international où les artistes du pays s’imposent progressivement. In Dudelange, history of jazz is written and rewritten in terms of live concerts. It realizes itself in the present and keeps a living account of collective musical memory. Twenty years after, the resourceful machineries of jazz are still active and the powerful generator of energies keeps turning on and on. At the turn of the new millennium, the reputation of Dudelange as Luxembourg’s City of Jazz was already firmly rooted in its outstanding previous history. Relying on this pioneering work and its ultimate commitment to jazz, the cultural department of the City decided to create an international jazz festival doing justice to the dynamic image of Dudelange, and to defend with refueled fervor its cultural strategy by organizing a common platform for the artists, the public, the professionals and cultural workers, as well as the associations and societies interested in partnership. Concentrating its efforts on jazz in all its forms, the festival offers a wide and open range of the most various currents, staking on the exceptional quality of the performances, shows and creations. Big names and living legends, but also artists representing new trends, the discoveries as well as the prize-winners and the “house” musicians, are going to share the stage of the CCRD opderschmelz. A lot of emphasis is given to Jazz from Luxembourg which actually is in full swing not only in this country but also on the international scale where jazz musicians of Luxembourgish origins earn themselves a growing reputation. In a spirit of exchange and conviviality, creations and encounters are to be generated continuously around the convergence of various cultures, generations and styles in a large melting pot. “Like a Jazz Machine” is a festival for all ages, worthy of a big city’s renown, dedicated to enhance the visibility and the moods of today’s jazz all over the city of Dudelange, the whole of Luxembourg and the large European borderland.
